James Caw particularly noted James Torrance’s portrayals of women and children. Torrance was also an accomplished illustrator in black and white, and his illustrated work includes “Scottish Fairy and Folk Tales,” edited by Sir George Douglas (1893). In 1898, he was invited to exhibit with the International Society of Sculptors, Painters, and Gravers when James Abbott McNeill Whistler was President. |
