Artuš Scheiner (1863-1938) Bohemian painter, decorative artist, and illustrator |
Artuš (or Artur) Scheiner was not classically trained in art but began painting as a child. Originally he worked as a financial clerk in Prague. He began his prolific career with drawings in German and Czech magazines, developing a reputation as a talented artist-humorist before progressing to illustrating books, in particular children’s fairytales. He became known best for his precise gouache drawing, mostly in secessional style. He also produced many paintings and advertising postcards. |
